After a full day marathon of the Cooking Channel one Saturday I got hooked on the idea of chocolate marrying spice. I'm not talking cinnamon spice, although that's included, I'm talking caliente spice. Intrigued by the idea I purchased a bar of spiced chocolate from the market. The first bite was sweet, I could barely taste the chili. But, by the second to third I could feel the kick. It was like nothing I had ever tasted, it was amazing! Since I've sneaked in a cup or two of spiced hot chocolate at home. It makes for a great snack that not only feeds your sweet craving, but will curb your appetite all day.
This recipe is very simple, but I believe the easiest things to make are the best. When you don't use many ingredients you can actually enjoy the flavors. So here it is = in a medium to large mug mix 1 - 2 tbsp. powdered cocoa (I enjoy Ghirardelli Unsweetened Cocoa Powder) 1/4 tsp cinnamon, a few dashes nutmeg, 2 tsp. brown sugar, and 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper. Fill half the mug with boiling hot water and mix together. Heat up 1 cup milk and add to the mixture. Sit back, read a book, and enjoy!
